dj silk
If
you
asked dj silk to tell you about himself he would say "there's really
not much to tell. I'm just someone who loves music."
Since the beginning, silk has always been a "under the radar"
type of guy. He has never needed to be the center of attention, never
tried to bring too much attention to himself, and rarely boasted about
his accomplishments in his personal or DJ life. When most people try to
envision what they think a DJ is like, dj silk doesn't even come close
to matching their vision .Moving through life with understated confidence
is silk's mantra.
silk began his career in the entertainment industry as an air personality
on Super 91.7 WMPH. For two years silk (known as Cool B at that time)
alongside Rohn Dungee and Kevin Adams produced, hosted, programmed, answered
phones, and manned the board successfully bringing the Delaware Valley
a urban show that didn't follow the same music format as the larger stations.
After a successful 2 year run the show disbanded and silk started to learn
the art of beat mixing. Under the watchful eye of DJ Art Money (who also
gave dj silk his name) taught dj silk how to beat mix by playing the Blend
Game. Art would put on a record and then silk would have to blend a record
in with the one Art started with. It was through DJ Art Money that silk
was introduced to the area's best DJ's who eventually all had a hand in
exposing silk to the many different area's of the DJ game.
While attending the University of Delaware silk used his DJ skills as
a means of earning extra money. silk's focus wasn't on being a professional
DJ while he was in school. He spun records because it was something that
he loved to do and he made enough money doing parties to pay for equipment,
records, and a little left over to have some extra fun. During silk's
senior year he was a mixer for 91.3 WVUD on Wednesday afternoons for the
urban time slot.
It wasn't until after experiencing 2 years of working for a financial
institution that silk realized that he wanted to take spinning records
as far as he possibly could. At that point silk transformed his hobby
into a full fledged passion and occupation.
To date, silk has spun on all 3 major urban stations in the Philadelphia/Delaware
Valley, earned a residency at Bluezette's in Old City Philadelphia (rated
#1 place to party in Vibe Magazine by Beanie Seigel Jan 2005), and has
spun at Club Nero (#1 Urban club in the Sacramento/Tahoe are) in Lake
Tahoe.
Of course there are many more accomplishments but silk isn't giving up
anymore information. silk's philosophy is that although the past has importance,
what has the most importance is what your doing, and what your going to
do...
